Feel the culture of the Atayal “Xikou Community” on Northern Cross-Island Highway as the elders sing the best wishes and the tribal people dance passionately to greet the guests. Taste the Atayal tribal dishes with the unique flavors and enjoy the freshness from the mountains and the beauty of the tribe! The Xikou Community also has the unique jaw harp (lamellophone) art. The tribal elders will give individual instructions to the guests to realize the ancestors’ art and cultural wisdom.

 

With the hunter’s gunshot as the ceremony to enter the mountain, the travelers are officially guided into the lifeline of past life, the secret land of Ancient Waterway Trail. The traditional daily life of the tribe can be interpreted through the findings along the way! In the atmosphere of indigenous art, the artist, Walis Hayung, will lead the travelers to learn “wahuq (bow loom weaving)” and create their personal accessories.

Xikou Community
Xikou, a tribe community named after the late president’s hometown, has the unique natural landscape and the longest suspension bridge in Taiwan crossing Dahan River and Xikou Terrace. The environment surrounded by mountains and rivers also contributes to Xikou Community’s ecology and culture.

Walk along the Hundred-Year Xikou Ancient Waterway Trail: Xikou Community’s ancient waterway passes through New Xikou Suspension Bridge and extends to Jiaobanshan. A round trip takes 3 hours.

Ancient Waterway Trail
The waterway on the Xikou Terrace was reclaimed during the Taisho Period of Japan and the water intake was set up to use the water of Kuihui River to irrigate the farms of the Atayal people. It is an important hundred-year cultural asset of waterway.

New Xikou Suspension Bridge
As a 303-meter bridge connecting the two attractions of Jiaobanshan and Xikou Tribe, the third-generation New Xikou Suspension Bridge is a slender and beautiful bridge. It is the longest suspension bridge in Taiwan, on which you can enjoy the magnificent views of Dahan River and surrounding mountains.

Jiaobanshan Residence


Jiaobanshan Residence includes many attractions such as the war preparedness tunnel, Chiang Kai-Shek’s residence, sculpture park, and camphor lab. The action figures of the Taiwanese native species such as clouded leopard, pangolin, and Formosan black bear stand along the forest trail outside the tunnel. The 3D interactive mural is painted on the wall of the 20-meter-deep and 100-meter-long underground tunnel. Through the signs of “Don’t forget national humiliation” and “Be loyal to the country,” oncoming bullets and ambushing underwater soldiers, the military scenes of the 50s are created.

Jiaobanshan Commercial District
Jiabanshan Commercial District comprises of the area between Zhongzhen Road, Zhognxiao Road and Zhongshan Road. The indigenous cuisines like fried creek shrimp, poached free-range chicken and Maqaw sausage are all must-try. There are also various popular restaurants to choose from. Don’t forget to bring home seasonal souvenirs like peaches, green bamboo shoots and mushrooms.

Jiaobanshan Park Also known as “Fuxing Park,” Jiaobanshan Park located on the southeast side of Jianbanshan covers a wide area. In the park, there are dozens of tall maple trees, old pine trees, and plum trees, which bloom into the beautiful pink carpet during the flower season. To add the art and cultural atmosphere to Jiaobanshan, Taoyuan City Government invites 12 international masters to create the public artworks in the park and make it the first world-class “sculpture park” for public art education. Located at the Sanceng area of Daxi, Taoyuan, the trail used to be the field road for miners. It is also the transportation hub between Daxi and Fuxing. The historic trail connects Bashishan, Caolingshan, and Baiji Tunnel. With plentiful waters and lush forests, it is the top choice for hiking beginners.

Visiting Daxi Tea Factory is like beginning a leisurely journey of “Tea Time.” Daxi Tea Factory was formerly Jiaobanshan Factory, a tea factory built by the Japanese in 1926, which marked the glorious history of Daxi tea manufacturing. It was considered an “upstart tea” at that time. However, a fire in 1956 almost destroyed the entire tea factory. In 2010, Taiwan Tea Corporation began the reconstruction of the factory, bringing back to the public the elegance of the tea culture by incorporating the new into the old.
